Story of Jack the Ripper
The man got dressed in the cold, dark room. Outside the great clock struck 12, followed by the loud noise of bells ringing. "It is time for my evening outing," said the man to himself, chuckling at his own mock courtesy. He threw his black overcoat over his pitch black suit and straightened his cravat. Before leaving the room, he took a top hat of a stand and placed it atop his head. Making sure he was presentable, he left the room and went out into the streets of London. Jack the Ripper on his regular midnight hunt for blood.

The SUV bumped up and down the uneven, dirt road. The sharp white headlights could barely pierce the thick fog that encircled the forest the car was going through. Inside the car were two police officers, one of them with his hands gripped firmly on the steering wheel, and a dark, cloaked man with a briefcase. The man was staring at the rearview mirror, as if expecting to see someone following them.
"Everything okay, Sir," asked one of the officers, noticing the man's strange behavior. It took a while for the man to answer. "Yes, yes everything is fine Valdez," said the man, his voice muffled by the scarf he had around his face. Despite sayi

Desert Roulette Chapter 5
The band of marauders rode nonstop for many days. The leather cuirass I wore clung protected my skin from the heat, but at the price of causing me to become drenched in sweat. It seemed like the thieves and I had ridden forever, but eventually on the fourth night after leaving the fortress we arrived to a hill overlooking the village. Well at least that's what the thieves called it. To me it looked like an assortment of huts and shacks, all in various stages of disrepair.
However it was evident that the thieves' village was not just a random hovel in the middle of nowhere. Surrounding the village was a wall, complete with garrison. The wall

Desert Roulette-Chapter 4
I awoke the next day, a film of dust covering my body. The hot desert sun was already streaming through the yellow windows of the bedchamber I was in. I rolled my self into a sitting position, my limbs aching from the uncomfortable mattress. The fire I had lite the night before was now a smoldering mass of blackened wood. I groggily rubbed the my eyes and got out of the bed. As my eyes adapted to the light of day I began to see things with a new clarity. I saw that the floors I stood on were stone and formed some sort if design that came from the four corners of the room and met in the center. When I examined it closely, I saw that is was a c

Desert Roulette-Chapter 3
Never had I ever experienced such a terrible heat. I felt as if my very blood was boiling. I continued to walk in the direction Riale had indicated. The featureless landscape seemed so unreal that I felt as if I was half asleep and wandering in a nightmare. The intense heat had caused my body to perspire until I felt as if I wouldn't be able to sweat for the rest of my life. My clothes clung to my body and my hair hung lank in my face. I tore off a piece of my sleeve and tied it around my forehead to keep my hair out of my face. The satchel I was holding felt as if it weighed a hundred pounds. My feet sank deep into the sand with each step, u

Desert Roulette-Chapter 2
I awoke at the crack of dawn at the sound of my cell door being opened. Groggily, I looked up at the guard who had disturbed my slumber. It was not Riale. Instead it was another guard, who looked to be middle-aged with a face like a statue. Silent and foreboding. I looked into his eyes; those endless dark caverns seemed to engulf me.
"It is time," said the guard in voice that sounded like and echo, "You will follow me to the stables where you will be handed over to your escort who will take you to the edge of the Desert."
I got up and rubbed my eyes, trying to get the tiredness out of them. I took a quick glance outside the window and saw

Desert Roulette-Chapter 1
As the midday sun rose into the sky, I looked about my surroundings. They had placed me in one of the larger cells of the city's main jail. It was clearly meant to hold many prisoners because, aside from the filthy cot I was sitting on, there were several other cots set against the cell's stone walls. I shared the cell with another prisoner, an elderly man who had not spoken a single word to me since my arrival. Instead he sat perfectly still, staring down at the small set of prayer beads he held in his hand and muttering something I could not hear. He had a monk-like appearance, with a bald head and a long white beard. Every now and then he
